Dr. Laura Potter-Cogan

Dr. Potter-Cogan was born in Saskatchewan but moved to BC at age 3, and settled in the Comox Valley in 1996. Having lived in Port Hardy prior to settling in Comox, she enjoys returning to the north island for hikes, kayaking and other adventures. She completed a business degree at the University of Victoria and worked in finance for 2 years before venturing to the Caribbean to complete the first 2 years of her medical degree at Saba University School of Medicine; there her study breaks included snorkeling and scuba, which has been a passion of hers since swimming with a whale shark on the way to her first dive on Roatan, Honduras in 2006. Her third and fourth years of medical school took her to teaching hospitals across the US, from Brooklyn, NY to Miami, FL and Augusta, MA, as well as PEI and of course, Comox. She moved back to Comox permanently in 2016 to complete her family medicine residency with the University of British Columbia, and has been working as a family doctor in Comox since 2018. Dr. Potter-Cogan enjoys building relationships with folks of all ages, from babies to the elderly and everything in between, but is particularly fond of her experiences working with adolescents. She is passionate about mental health and ensuring her patients feel safe and heard.
